Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed the carriers that have requested for slots to land at Velana International Airport (MLE), the Maldives. According to MACL, 10 international passenger flights have requested to arrive Maldives once the border is re-opened from July 15, 2020 onwards. Sri Lankan Airlines, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, IndiGo, Singapore Airlines, Silk Air and Turkish Airlines are those airlines which have already requested for slots to land at Velana International Airport (MLE).
The slot requests from the flights to Maldives are as follows:
From July 1 Onwards:
Sri Lankan Airlines – Daily 3 flights.
Qatar Airways – Daily 1 flight.
From July 15 Onwards:
Emirates Airlines – Daily 1 flight
Etihad Airways – Weekly 2 flights
Hong Kong Airlines – Weekly 2 flights
IndiGo – Daily 2 flights
Singapore Airlines – Daily 1 flight
Silk Air – Daily 2 flights
Turkish Airlines – Daily 2 flights, 5 days a week.
MACL stated that the passengers are required to be at the airport around four hours prior to their flights to carry out “New Normal” formalities and passengers will only be allowed to enter airport after thermal scans and other procedures in accordance with the HPA guidelines. According to MACL, Velana International Airport is well equipped for the “new normal”.
During a National TV Address of H.E President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced that the borders of the Maldives will re-open from 15th July, 2020. The resorts and liveaboard vessels of the Maldives will resume its operations and will be welcoming back their guest from July 15, 2020 onwards as well. While the guesthouses are scheduled to re-open in 1st August 2020.
