Maldives breaks free diving world record on October 1, Tuesday 2019 for most people freediving simultaneously. This record breaking event was done as a part of the many programs that took place in connection with the World Tourism Day 2019 celebrations. The Island Nation’s President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih joined amongst 520 others in simultaneous freediving off the lagoon of Baros Maldives resort. The participants of this event have to stay underwater for around 30 seconds. Freediving world champion Willian Trubridge, a double world record holding freediver from New Zealand, also participated in this special event. The event was called “Neyvaa”, which means breath in the local language Dhivehi.
Officials from Guinness at the scene declared the “Neyvaa” event as a new world record and presented the official certificate to President Solih. Torri del Benaco in the Province of Verona previously held the world record for the most people free diving simultaneously on October 11 2009 with 280 people.
