Maldives welcomed the inaugural flight of Indian low-cost airlines SpiceJet from Kochi to Malé on 29th of November 2012. The ceremony was attended by top officials of travel industry and the government.
SpiceJet daily flights from Kochi (KOC) to Ibrahim Nasir International Airport in Malé (MLE), is expected to support tourism and commercial ties between India and Maldives.
SpiceJet Airline would be operating Bombardier Q400 aircrafts for both routes. The Bombardier Q400 NextGen turboprop aircrafts can accommodate 78 passengers and is widely accepted as one of the best short-haul plane globally. Ticket prices start from USD 99 for one way.
SpiceJet is a low-cost airline headquartered in Chennai, India owned by Kalanithi Maran. It began service in May 2005 and by 2012, it is India’s third largest airline in terms of market share.
