Although, the staff in resort islands speak multi-languages such as English, Italian, French, German, Japanese or chinese. It is not always the same that of the hotels in Maldives if you stay in one of the local island guest houses of the Maldives. Most of the younger generation speaks and understands English language but not the majority of the senior natives. The native language is called dhivehi. In this short series of topics I will be focusing on the local language. This, believe me, is an excellent ice breaker whether it is with the youth or the senior locals of the Maldives.
